Veteran Cricketer and Golfer, Mr Frank Taylor was elected Honorary Life Member of LGC in February 1931 having been a member for over 40 years. He was the club captain in 1907 and 1925, Hon. Treasurer for 27 years until his death in August 1936 and a member for a total of 47 years.

On 12th March 1910, he twice won the Stevens Shield with scores of 88-11=77 and 89-10=79.

Referred to in the Annual Report of 1935 as the G.O.M. (Grand Old Man) of Lobden. The finances of Lobden were said to have been a particular hobby of his, and that his 'handicap' increased to the extent of the bank overdraft!

Following his death in 1936, his brother Marshall Taylor offered a cup to the club as a memorial trophy. This cup had previously been won by Frank Taylor in 1911 as a prize for the Captain's Final, which he won after a 36 hole play-off against two handicapper Dr Anderson by 3 shots after they had tied with net scores of 143. A suitable plinth was purchased by the club and an inscription 'Frank Taylor Cup' was engraved on it.

Mr Taylor played cricket for Lancashire County Cricket Club where he was elected a Hon. Life Member and was President of Castleton Cricket Club. His association with the cricket club spanned a period of over 60 years. In July 1877 along with E L Chadwick (213 not-out) Castleton made a record score of 484 for 2 against Rusholme, Mr Taylor made 125.
