These photos have been kindly donated to the Club by Mr Malvern Hostick via the Lobden website. Over the past year he has been helping to organise aspects of the estate of his friend the late Joan Hargreaves, artist and daughter of Alfred Hargreaves, and has recently deposited her files, photographs and ancestral memorabilia at the Lancashire Archives. These include much of Alfred's cotton mill business papers and artefacts. In the deposit where some photographs relating to Lobden Golf Club, which he has kindly allowed the Club to use both on the website and in the clubhouse. These have been repaired and optimised from yellowed old 120 format photographs by Mr Hostick. On behalf of the club we thank him for taking the time to contact the club via our website and also for obtaining permission from the executors of Joan's estate. The photos appear to be from either the very late 19th century or early 20th. Some of these show members from the beginning of the last century. Alfred Hargreaves was born in 1875; the portrait looks that of a man in his twenties but in the clubhouse group he appears quite a bit older - this photograph might probably be just prior to WW1. Interestingly, the executors have a rather good quality canteen of cutlery that was given by the Lobden Golf Club to Alfred and Ann (Sucksmith) Hargreaves on the occasion of their wedding in 1920. The Alfred Hargreaves Memorial Trophy was first played for in 1953. Mr Alfred Hargreaves was Secretary from 1906 to 1918 and Captain in 1919. He also donated the Victory Cup in celebration of the cessation of hostilities in 1919. Click on the thumbnails for larger pictures
